MANAGING DIRECTOR

Alex Lau co-founded Ballas Capital in 2017. His responsibility includes managing initial public offerings and fund raising exercises to advising listed companies on mergers and acquisitions, takeovers, buyouts  and other corporate advisory transactions.

Alex started his career in England and was qualified as a chartered accountant in 1988. Then he joined Ernst & Whiney (i.e. the predecessor of Ernst & Young today) in Hong Kong for a year before moving to The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited. During his tenure with the Stock Exchange, he was a member of the Listing Division to witness one of the major market reforms in Hong Kong bringing the PRC companies (the H shares) into the Hong Kong capital market.

In 1993, Alex left the regulator and began his investment banking career. Since then, he has worked for many renowned financial institutions, including Vickers Ballas, DBS Asia Capital, CIMB Securities and Crosby Securities. Prior to founding Ballas Capital, he helped Bank of Shanghai to setup its Corporate Finance operation in Hong Kong, i.e. BOSC International in 2015.

Alex has accumulated over 30 years of experience in corporate finance and accounting. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from University of East Anglia, England in 1984 and has been a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) since 1988.  Alex is also a certified ESG Analyst accredited by The European Federation of Financial Analysts Societies.

HEIDI CHENG
 MANAGING DIRECTOR

Heidi Cheng co-founded Ballas Capital in 2017. Her responsibility includes managing initial public offerings and fund raising exercises to advising listed companies on mergers and acquisitions, takeovers, buyouts  and other corporate advisory transactions.

Prior to founding Ballas Capital, Heidi helped Bank of Shanghai to setup its Corporate Finance operation in Hong Kong, i.e. BOSC International in 2015. Before that, Heidi held various senior positions with Crosby Securities, CIMB Securities and Taifook Capital (now renamed as Haitong Capital).  Heidi has also been a vice president of the Listing Division of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited and has worked in ING and Ernst & Whiney (the predecessor of Ernst & Young today).

Heidi has over 25 years of experience in corporate finance, banking and accounting. She graduated from University of Alberta, Canada with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and is a member of The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants of United Kingdom and Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

CATHY LEUNG

Cathy Leung joined Ballas Capital in 2017. Her corporate finance experience covers fund raising exercises, mergers and acquisitions and corporate advisory to listed issuers on notifiable and connected transactions as well as ongoing compliance by listed issuers with their obligations under the Listing Rules and Takeovers Code. She has been involved in the listing of companies from sectors including the construction sector (Channel Micron (stock code: 2115)), printing sector (Universe Printshop (stock code: 8448)), the medical sector (Vincent Medical (stock code: 1612)), the food and beverage sector (Hung Fook Tong (stock code: 1446)) and the manufacturing sector (Lee & Man Handbags (stock code: 1488)). Cathy has also completed many financial advisory projects and takeover cases including China Maple Leaf Education (a main board listed company, stock code: 1317) taking over Kingsley Edugroup (a GEM listed company, stock code: 8105), Xingfa Aluminum (stock code: 98), Ford Glory (stock code: 1682) and Kith (stock code: 1201).

Prior to joining Ballas Capital, Cathy worked in the corporate finance department in BOSC International and Crosby Securities. She had also worked for CIMB Securities and Kingston Corporate Finance.

Cathy has over 10 years of experience in corporate finance. She graduated from Chinese University of Hong Kong with a Master degree of Law.

MICHELLE TSE
DIRECTOR

Michelle joined Ballas Capital in 2022. Her corporate finance experience covers fund raising exercise, mergers and acquisitions and financial advisory to listed issuers on notifiable and connected transactions as well as ongoing compliance by listed issuers with their obligations under the Listing Rules and the Takeovers Code.

Michelle started her career as an auditor in Ernst & Young. She then worked in the corporate finance department in CIMB Securities Limited. She joined Maxnerva Technology Services Limited in the capacity of financial controller during 2015 to 2018. Prior to joining Ballas Capital in September 2022, she has also worked for Huajin Corporate Finance (International) Limited.

Michelle has over 15 years of experience in corporate finance, accounting and financial control. She is a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She graduated with a Bachelor degree in BBA (Accounting) in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
